How to start with Technomate 5402 HD CI+

I am completely new to cardsharing, having just seen a friend with a Ferguson unit using it.
As i have a Technomate 5402 HD CI+ i thought it worth a try.
However, as far as i can see on this site, there are no instructions as to how to get started i.e. what changes have to be made - i'm assuming firmware changes but exactly what seems to be a mystery.
Any help would be appreciated.
