Title: Sky UK - New encryption
Post by: dreamboxuk on 21 May 2014, 16:53:08
Hi, like all the other Sky Uk subscribers a significant number of channels have started to disappear and more will follow. I was very curios to see what they where actually doing because they have tried for years to stop cardsharing with no success. Anyway it seems they haven't changed the codec for the tv channels. That one really confused me as sky still has SD channels on MPEG2 and are notorious for not wanting to upgrade there codec. I even went to check my mates 5 year old sky box and that is still working with the blocked HD channels, its too old to handle the new HEVC codec. What has happened is that they have added a new layer of encryption between the box and the card. I found a good explanation of it that I thought people might find handy, It's pretty long so I have pasted it here http://pastebin.com/6mH6HZ97
If anyone knows anymore I would love to here it.

I have a PC setup which can handle HEVC and these channels aren't working for me either.. are there actually any channels using HEVC? I think it is more likely the change described by dreamboxuk

Your PC can handle, but did you install codec?

Yes I am using DVBDream with the LAV filter which supports HEVC.

it's an issue of overcrypt channels (new pairing card method) - in the most cases (new paring method), partially - new codec.
The problem is global and solution (we hope so) must be found.

We said that it's partially due to the codec and partially- due to new paring method. Please read Englisg forums, everybody's suffering from this innovation, not only you
